Aquatics & Recreation Victoria presents a range of professional development workshops for swim teachers, aqua exercise leaders, fitness instructors, coordinators, managers, allied health workers and other professionals working in or using the aquatic environment.  The workshops feature dynamic presenters, quality lectures, demonstrations and notes that enable aquatic professionals to remain up to date with the latest developments in the aquatic industry.

Aquatics & Recreation Victoria presents a range of Industry Development Workshops which have been designed for staff working in all aspects of the aquatic, recreation and leisure industries, from entry through to management levels. 

 

Workshop content is tailored to meet the needs of the delegates attending each session so you can be sure you will gain information and insight to your specific role and responsibilities.

Industry Development Workshops are interactive and action based, so be prepared to get involved. They feature dynamic presenters, quality lectures, demonstrations and notes that enable you to remain up to date with the latest developments in the industry.

Duration: 4 hours

 

Maintaining pool and spa water quality is an essential component of the successful operation of an aquatic facility…however the technical nature of the task often makes it a challenge!

 

In this four-hour workshop we will address the must-know information operational staff need to maintain pool water quality including:

  • Pool chemicals and their application

  • Understanding balanced water

  • Testing pool water

  • Circulation and filtration

  • Storage and handling of chemicals

The workshop is recommended for anyone who needs to know more about pool and spa operations including pool lifeguards, centre and operations managers, owner operators and local government contract managers.

 

The workshops will be conducted by experienced staff from Roejen Services – leading providers of engineering and technical services to the aquatic industry.  Group numbers are strictly limited to ensure maximum participation.

 

Duration: 7 hours

 

Do you experience conflict in your workplace? Conflict may be between staff, or involving guests and participants.  Common aquatics and recreation industry examples include:

  • Inflexible or aggressive parents of children enrolled in programs

  • Difficult, outspoken or independent children who want to do their own 'thing'

  • Suppliers who don't deliver what they promise

  • Other staff who make your day unpleasant

This one-day training program will arm you with the skills and knowledge to manage these and other challenging situations professionally and with confidence.  This intensive program includes:

 

  • Building positive relationships

  • Identifying personality types

  • Key communication and listening skills

  • Creative client focused solutions

 

Who Should Attend?


Anyone who deals with people will find this session valuable including: managers, coordinators and duty managers, customer service staff, program staff (eg. swim school, health and fitness, recreation, crèche, sports coaches), operational staff (eg. cafe, maintenance, cleaners).

 

Duration: 7.5 hours

 

Managing staff is often extremely challenging and can be rewarding if well done.

How can you get the most out of your staff and create a positive and balanced work environment?  During this session we'll focus on actions and tools for successful HR management, including:

 

  • Preparing and reviewing job descriptions

  • Strategies for sourcing new staff

  • Interview and selection processes

  • Preparing induction programs

  • Initial and ongoing training plans

  • Managing and mentoring staff

  • Making the most of team meetings

 

Duration: 4 hours

 

Programs & events are an integral part of the business of sport, recreation and leisure facilities.

Open days, fundraising events and birthday celebrations (the centre, not yours!!) are all great opportunities to build your business profile in the community while generating significant income...if properly planned and implemented.  This workshop will address the key stages in planning programs ands special events including:

 

  • Identification of opportunities and target markets

  • Understanding your catchment base

  • Broadening your program menu

  • Overview of cost analysis and budget preparation

  • Competitor analysis

  • Scheduling and running the program or event

  • Review and evaluation

 

Duration: 4 hours

 

Do your customers know who you are, what you do and when you do it? What about the thousands of potential customers who are yet to find out??

 

Learn strategies for promoting your business and the programs and events you conduct through effective marketing campaigns.  We will also address the important role of your staff who are integral to the successful promotion of your business and the services you offer.

 

Duration: 4 hours

 

More than 'customer service', developing a culture of Customer Care will take your business to the next level!

This four-hour workshop will review the key strategies for building a customer care culture amongst all staff - from the junior casual employee through to management.  We will address listening and communication skills, identifying customer needs, problem solving strategies, managing emotions in challenging situations and the importance of empathy.
