Aqua Exercise Leaders Certificate

 
   

Aqua Exercise is a popular alternative form of aquatic activity.  The water offers benefits including aerobic fitness, weight loss and injury rehabilitation.  Aqua exercise is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

 

The Aqua Exercise Leader’s Certificate trains fitness leaders to conduct safe and effective aqua exercise for the general community.  This course is aligned to competency standards from the Fitness Training Package. 

 

Aquatics & Recreation Victoria has tailored a course that provides a systematic approach to designing, delivering and evaluating water based exercise sessions for different population groups.

Pre-requisite


There are no pre-requisites to attend the course, however the fitness industry requires the completion of Certificate III in Fitness for full certification and registration.  Aquatics & Recreation Victoria recommend you participate in and review three aqua exercise classes, at least one of which should be undertaken prior to attending the course.

 

Course Duration


60 hours including face to face contact, take home assignments and on the job training.

 

Certification


On successful completion of this course participants will receive a Aquatics & Recreation Victoria Aqua Exercise Leaders Qualification and a Statement of Attainment for the following unit towards a Certificate III in Fitness:

 

  • SRF AQA 001A Instruct water based fitness classes for the general population.

  • SRC FAQA 002A Instruct water based fitness classes for specific clients

  • SRC AQU 008A Apply the principles of movements in water to aquatic activities

For those who already hold the Aqua Exercise Leaders Qualification you can attend any 3.5 hour block of the aqua module and earn three (3) Professional Development Points - Kinect Australia and five (5) AUSTSWIM re-registration points.

If you need to update in any area of aqua exercise, then contact our customer service staff to request a timetable of the course, outlining when the various sessions are running and what would suit you best.  Session costs are as follows:

$99.00 (or $88.00 for Aquatics & Recreation Victoria Members)

AUSTSWIM re-registration points and State or National Fitness Accreditation Body continuing education credits (CEC's) apply.

 

Course Content
 

The Aqua Exercise Leader’s Certificate consists of both theoretical and practical components including:

  • Develop and prepare a plan for a water based fitness class

  • Aqua science and hydrodynamic principles

  • Display expertise in instructing water based fitness classes

  • Effective use of music in the aqua exercise class

  • Aqua exercise for specific populations

  • Water safety techniques for the aqua exercise leader.

 

Assessment
 

All assessment components must be completed within 12 months of the module commencement date. The following components must be satisfactorily completed prior to certification:

  • complete and submit a take home assignment within one month of undertaking the course

  • participate in a further three aqua exercise sessions, verified by the class instructor

  • demonstrate Water Rescue competence

  • design and deliver a 10-minute aqua exercise session for the intermediate/advanced/beginner fitness levels.

  • Provide evidence of a current cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) award.

Upon completion of all requirements candidates are issued with the Aquatics & Recreation Victoria Aqua Exercise Leader’s Qualification.
